Irish D Porter
Botanical Name: Dahlia "Irish D Porter"
Form: Pompon
Bloom Size: ~1.5 – 2 inches
Plant Height: ~3.5 – 4.5 feet
Exposure: Full Sun
Bloom Period: Mid-season (typically 80–100 days to maturity)Description:
Irish D Porter is a charming pompon dahlia celebrated for its petite, tightly curled blooms in soft blush pink with a creamy yellow center. The uniform spherical form of each bloom brings delicate structure to bouquets, while the blush tones impart a romantic, pastel elegance. Over the season, the color may gently lighten, giving a soft, ethereal appearance across stems. The plants are moderately vigorous with slender stems, making them suited for cut-flower use and garden display. Because the blooms are smaller, they blend beautifully as accent or filler flowers in arrangements, adding texture and gentle contrast.
Growing & Cut Notes:
Space plants 12 – 18 inches apart to allow good airflow.
Pinch the young shoots when ~12 inches tall to promote branching.
Harvest when blooms are ~¾ open (i.e. nearly fully formed but not overly expanded) to extend vase life.
The stems are somewhat thin, so provide light staking in windy or heavy rain conditions.
Because of the compact blooms, handle stems gently and use clean cuts and hydration to maximize longevity.
Best For:
Boutonnieres, petite posies, delicate mixed bouquets, wedding designs with soft palettes, accent blooms in garden borders.
